Foam materials are used in many sports products where cushioning, shock absorption, buoyancy, insulation or body protection is required. Different sports products need different foam structures. A yoga mat does not use the same foam as a life jacket, boxing pad or wetsuit.

Foam For Sports Application

Sports foam materials are usually selected according to density, thickness, hardness, rebound, compression, surface feel and working environment.

For soft cushioning products, EVA foam or PE foam is often used. For lightweight padding and thermal insulation, IXPE or XPE foam can be considered. For water sports, neoprene foam laminated with fabric is commonly used. For outdoor sports protection or anti-impact parts, EPDM, SBR or higher-density foam may be selected depending on the application.

EVA Foam for Mats, Blocks and Protective Pads

EVA foam is widely used in sports products because it is lightweight, flexible and easy to process. It can be supplied in sheets, rolls or molded/cut parts depending on the product.

For sports mats and pads, the density and hardness should be selected according to the required support and comfort. Softer EVA foam gives better comfort, while higher-density EVA foam gives stronger support and better durability.

IXPE and XPE Foam for Camping Mats and Floating Products

IXPE and XPE foam are closed-cell PE foam materials. They are lightweight, water-resistant and suitable for products that need cushioning, insulation or buoyancy.

For camping mats, the foam should be light and easy to roll or fold. For floating mats or pool products, water resistance and buoyancy are more important.

Neoprene foam laminated with nylon, polyester or spandex fabric is commonly used for water sports and sports supports.

Neoprene fabric is selected when the product needs flexibility, warmth, water resistance and a close body fit. For sports supports, the material provides mild compression, cushioning and comfort during movement.

EPDM foam and SBR foam can be used in some outdoor sports protection and impact cushioning products.
EPDM foam is often selected when better weather resistance, aging resistance or outdoor performance is required. SBR foam is usually considered for products that need abrasion resistance and cost control.
